    Dear Vince,
In the Sept. 10 star page a2, an article states,”doubt cast on renowned lab’s DNA analysis. It is written by Colleen Long. Oliver has not found his donor and I think we should search elsewhere instead of FTDNA. What are your thoughts?

      Margaret,

It is an unfortunate, and frequently unacknowledged fact that DNA science has certain risks and is continually evolving. Learning of a Lab’s particular problems is definitely unsettling.

Unfortunately, I can’t speak in any detail to DNA testing labs. I’ve used 23 & Me, but I signed up back when they could provide medical information (before the US FDA brought them into line, probably appropriately) and haven’t paid much attention to the genealogical tools.

      Yours,
      Vince
